Dr. Andrei Honciuc is a Senior Scientific Researcher at the “Petru Poni” Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry of the Romanian Academy in Iași, Romania. He previously served as a Metrohm-endowed Professor at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences, Switzerland, where he led a research group focused on nanomaterials, interfacial science, and functional polymer systems. Prior to his academic career, he worked as a research chemist at BASF, contributing to the development of advanced materials for photolithographic processes used in the fabrication of next-generation semiconductor devices. Dr. Honciuc received his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Alabama, USA, in 2006. He subsequently conducted postdoctoral research in surface science and nanotechnology at the University of Colorado Boulder, followed by research as an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen–Nürnberg, Germany. His international academic and industrial experience spans the United States, Germany, Switzerland, and Romania. His research focuses on the design, synthesis, and interfacial engineering of functional polymeric micro- and nanomaterials. Major areas of interest include Janus nanoparticles, Pickering emulsion polymerization, surface-functionalized colloids, and polymer composites with optoelectronic and multifunctional properties. He has worked extensively on materials for piezoelectric energy harvesting, fluorescence-based sensing, and responsive soft-matter systems. A significant direction of his recent work is the development of water-floating polymeric adsorbents for the removal of heavy-metal ions from contaminated water, offering scalable and cost-effective solutions for environmental remediation. He is also interested in fundamental aspects of surface energy, interfacial phenomena, and nanoparticle assembly, including the development of new experimental methods for measuring the surface energy of nanoparticles. Dr. Honciuc has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and patents in the fields of nanotechnology, polymer science, and interfacial materials, and he is actively involved in international collaborations, editorial activities, and scientific conference organization.
